How can this be a debut novel? Emily Fridlund has written an engrossing book with flesh and blood characters you know, a landscape you feel like a memory, and dialogue you are overhearing.
It would be easy to compare this to the inimitable Ian McEwan's The Children Act (brilliant), and yet Fridlund's work stands alone with a narrative voice, innocence and honesty that make it worth not sleeping since you can't let the protagonist be alone in her journey.
With respect to all faiths, we are matter -

and this books is and does.
Read hardcover.
